Why I Use Generative AI: A Creator’s Heart in a Digital World
In the world of creative arts, there is a new "boogeyman" in the room, and its name is Generative AI.
If you’ve spent any time on social media lately, you’ve seen the battle lines drawn. On one side, the purists who believe a machine has no place in art. On the other, the tech-evangelists who think human effort is a relic of the past.
I’m somewhere in the middle. I use Generative AI to help me write songs for my kids. I use it to explore silly topics, educational themes, and deep emotions. To some, this is controversial. To me, it’s a bridge. Here is why I’ve chosen to embrace this technology instead of running from it.
1. It’s About Connection, Not a "Corporate Scheme"
First and foremost, let’s talk about the why. My channel isn't a massive corporate operation designed to replace human artists or "enslave humanity" with algorithms.
It’s a hobby.
I started this journey because I wanted to create something special for my children. Whether it’s a song about why we brush our teeth or a melody about the wonders of the solar system, the goal is connection. AI hasn't replaced my role as a parent; it has simply given me a tool to express my love and lessons in a medium—music—that my kids respond to best.
2. Bridging the "Skill Gap"
Let’s be honest: AI is still in its "awkward teenage years." A lot of what it produces is sloppy or uncanny. But it’s getting better every day.
More importantly, AI covers the gaps in my own skill set. I’m an idea person, a storyteller, and a father—but I’m not a professional sound engineer or a multi-instrumentalist.
The Reality: Without AI, these songs would stay as rough notes in a dusty journal.
The Result: With AI, they become living, breathing pieces of entertainment.
I don’t believe AI is a "perfect replacement" for human-learned skill. There is a specific magic in a live performance that a computer cannot replicate. However, I’ve started to view AI music as a new category entirely: it’s entertainment. It’s a different way to consume and enjoy sound, and that’s okay.
3. The Patience to Evolve
Every major technological shift—from the printing press to the synthesizer—has been met with fear. We are currently in a period that requires a lot of patience.
AI is game-changing, but we are still the ones in the driver’s seat. As humans, we have to find the use cases that actually add value to the world. Some experiments won't work. Some uses will feel cold and robotic. But others will be transformative.
"We are the curators of the tools we use. The tool doesn't define the mission; the person holding it does."
Final Thoughts: The Human Behind the Machine
At the end of the day, there is always a human heart behind the AI I use. It’s my vision, my prompts, and my final "okay" that brings a project to life.
Perhaps one day the AI will overtake my technical skill set. To some, that’s a scary thought. To me? It’s an opportunity. If the tools get better, the stories I can tell my children—and share with you—get better too.
I will always be the human behind the screen. The AI is just the instrument I've chosen to play.
